Partners - As you may have heard, Azure team recently announced a new pricing model for Azure Backup and I would like to give you a quick overview as the new model is now in effect. This is exciting news as the new model brings huge savings (more than 70% in most cases) and makes Azure Backup even more attractive. Let’s get to the details.
If you are familiar with the old backup pricing model, new model may seem a little confusing at first. However, it is actually very simple. You just need to look at 2 things.
- Size of the Instance that you would like to protect
- Storage consumed by the instance

Please also note; similar to the old model, customers will not be charged for outbound network traffic, restoring data from Azure Backup and storage transactions.

In this example, savings is more than 70% compared to the old model. This is huge but if you take long-term retention into account, depending on your retention policy and churn rate, the actual savings will be even higher.
